Introduction
Philosophy is interested in, among other things, scientific acts and their ethical quality. Ethics do not challenge the freedom of researchers, citizens and communities, but request and encourage respectful and responsible behavior. The principle of respect for nature is one of the most dominant ethical trends that ignites an environmentalist spark.
Even if international, regional and national institutions should act in humanity and the planet’s best interests, this is not always the case when it comes to economic or political gain. This is why legal and ethical standards must be put in place to entail the responsibility of those involved.
Nowadays, the rapid evolution of technology, biology and other sciences raises huge ethical questions, questions which we cannot ignore as professionals and citizens: we must think about our modus operandi, our impact on society and on nature.

In participating at this exceptional event, you will benefit from the Geneva forum’s location in the Palace of Nations. This United Nations building will allow you to have a significant impact on international awareness and decision-making, with the presence of multiple players from the sustainable development field.
Through the Geneva forum, the Objectif Sciences International NGO makes the arrangement of discussions around these major contemporary issues possible. During this meeting of the international scientific, political and academic community, there will be a report on the ethical and philosophical developments of these major issues.
In the world of sustainable development, the discussion around philosophy had not occurred until recently, where it has to some extent contributed to the concept of progress being looked at from an ethical viewpoint. Ethics are socially created values which guide interaction between people and their social and natural environment. More than being based on an ideal, they are a part of daily life. They make it possible to look at human actions, no matter the context, in order to see if they are consistent with the interest of people, nature and the environment. They differentiate right from wrong.
Over time, ethical issues and psychology evolve. For close to a century, many topics have been reevaluated through ethics:
- the relationship between the sexes
- the relationship to flora and fauna
- the relationship to the body
- the economy, politics and trade
- human rights and justice
- and many others
These issues can put forward the interests of all living beings to make sure cohabitation is possible and sustainable. The good condition of biodiversity and the ecosystem is crucial for the survival of animals and humans. Whether its trade, hunting or research, practices and policies all concern human life. They must follow an ethical and philosophical reasoning because they govern and impact the planet.
In sustainable development, ethics make it possible to look at what is fair regarding the different challenges of a certain topic and also the well-being of those involved. Even if human needs are not ethically favorable for the environment, humanity must learn and understand how to meet their needs while respecting what surrounds them. This is because the decisions we make today will have a strong and probably irreversible impact tomorrow. Different organizations, associations and communities must plan, come together, and share their knowledge with the goal of protecting our future world.
