Meetings that Change the World!
One week of High Level Meetings, Crossing the Spheres of the Stakeholders
The halfway point between the PORTO-ALLEGRE FORUM and the DAVOS FORUM ; the platform for the creation and development of projects for peace and SDGs.

Introduction

In all disciplines, International Organizations are faced with blockages that prevent them from advancing and evolving. The GENEVA FORUM has carried out a reflection that proposes feasible and concrete solutions to make the international system more efficient.

The program

Develop your projects, create your business...

The GENEVA FORUM invites you to propose your solutions in this field.

In international organizations, the people making the official policy decisions and those working to implement them are not the same, and this hinders effectiveness. Even though they come from the field and draw on this experience, the group of reflective experts find themselves in a paradoxical situation: on the one hand they have the capacity to apprehend and understand the problems in the field, and on the other they create intellectual concepts based on the major theories.

By definition, single theoretical concepts cannot be compatible with the immense diversity of possible situations in reality: but in order to do something viable at the level of such organisations, something simple has to be put in place.

The discussion in this group leads to one conclusion: the right way, the way forward, while field workers come up with other solutions. All viable but not compatible with the principles imposed by the organization. In the end, however, it is usually the latter who have the last word.

In order to make the search for solutions more fluid and efficient, organizations must adopt a permanent Bottom-up approach: the conclusions must come from those who implement them. In the climate of international organisations, even these conclusions will quickly become disconnected and outdated as situations and people change: Bottom-up should be very frequent (at least every two years).

To avoid this, organizations should decentralize and become federal: permanent Bottom-up will then be an intrinsic way of functioning. This implies a diversity of solutions from one region to another but is quite feasible with the means of the agencies.
